We offer high school students the incredible opportunity to catch a glimpse of what university life will be like giving all students that attend an unmatched advantage for applying for universities in the near future.

Students will get a taste of living in university dormitories, taking meals in the dinning halls, and attending courses in the lecture halls by well-qualified lecturers & tutors of Cambridge University. Resident Advisors, usually current Cambridge University students, are available at all times to guide students along our programme material as well as answer any questions participants may have about applying for universities. For those interested in applying for the University of Cambridge, this includes walking to the Admissions Office to get the latest updates and information of the application process.

Besides taking college preparation courses focused on university selection, writing your personal statement, and interview techniques with mock interviews, participants can also choose an exciting elective to study such as British Films, British History, Natural Science, and much more.

With the introduction of CSU, CBL International now offers summer school programmes at two of the world’s oldest and most prestigious universities in the world – University of Oxford and University of Cambridge.

CSU takes place in Magdalene College and Trinity Hall and offers programmes focusing on International Business & Management, International Relations & Politics, Legal & Business English, and Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. This summer vacation was the most unforgettable experience in my life. As I stepped on the land of Oxford, I knew that I would love this place. CBL International welcomed us with their sincere speech from the organizers and had a wonderful cocktail party which provided us with great opportunities to get acquainted with other exchange students. After that, I found the program extremely enriching with both lectures which provided us a broad overview of basic concepts about economic management and a great communication environment of knowledgeable professors and also activities which broaden our horizon and helped us in understanding more of the British culture. For example, we punted at Oxford River and took a trip to Cambridge, Bath, London, etc. In addition, I also want to mention that the accommodation service was perfect! During the stay, something went wrong with my water faucet in my bathroom, so I reported it to the porter and soon after that, a very nice plumber was sent here to fix it. I was really impressed the high working efficiency and personalized service of CBL International as well as Oriel College.

Students of CBL International Schools visit prestigious companies and law firms, which gives them the opportunity to apply the content they learn in my class. The set-up of the programmes provides students with knowledge of important players in the global world of law and business.

 

I was very fortunate to study International Law courses in the famous Oxford University in the United Kingdom August 2012. I really like this experience with the CBL program. And it provided me a great opportunity to know other students of Nankai University along with other students in the program.

I studied my master in France for two years, so I am somewhat familiar with the differences between European and Chinese culture. However, after the two-month of study in Oxford University, I had more knowledge about English culture and English people. One of the most memorable experience I had this summer is going for the opera “Phantom of the Opera” in London. There are many famous opera house near Piccadilly Circus in London, and I always wanted to watch an opera once. This time, I’m just in time for the 25 years anniversary of “The Phantom of the Opera”, so I quickly booked a ticket online, then rushed to the bus station and left for London. I never hear an opera before, but I loved this very famous opera “The Phantom of the Opera”. Before it starts, I was slightly nervous and excited at the same time. There were this British father and son sitting next to me and the father seemed to be very familiar with the plot of this opera so he explained the opera to his son. Luckily I also took the opportunity to have a little preview of the story. During the opera, the character of the Phantom of the Opera would sometimes appear above the stage, then the little boy next to me patted my shoulder and told me to look at above. This cute move of the boy give me a deeper impression of the real English gentleman. On my way back to Oxford, I was still struggling between the love and hate of the characters in the opera.

As we all know, the United Kingdom is Shakespeare’s home country, and I also had the chance to see the famous drama of Shakespeare, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at Oxford’s Rhodes House Garden. Unlike in the normal theater that we used to watch the drama, this drama is performed in a garden. At the beginning of the drama, the audiences gathered in the corner of the garden, and were standing or sitting on the grass. When the performances of actors who had completed one chapter, they would lead the audiences to go to a big tree in the garden to perform the next chapter. Finally, the audiences would be sitting down in the chairs at the middle of the garden to finish watching the rest of the show. the weather in Oxford at night is much cooler than during the day and we were watching the drama outdoor, so I found I didn’t dress warm enough for the night. Next to me, there were a English old lady, who saw me cross my arms tightly in my chest, so she shared her blanket with me. I was very moved by this kindness of her, and thanked to her I could focus on the drama and not disturbed by the cold temperature.

In conclusion, Britain has more than just a long history of culture and the arts, also it has very nice and kind British people. My only wish is for CBL program to be longer, because I want to stay in Britain for more than one month.

UC Berkeley’s summer abroad program “Doing business in China”, together with CBL, has been one of the most amazing trips I have ever been on. Before I got here, I didn’t quite know what to expect – except that there would be lots of travelling: starting in Hong Kong, we took the ferry to Shenzhen, the plane to Shanghai and then the high speed train to the capital, Beijing, where the program ended. Not to mention various daytrips on the bus, including Suzhou and the Great Wall! It turned out that three weeks of firm visits, cultural experience and exploring China couldn’t be more fun! The trip provided a perfect balance of extensive studying and having fun at the same time. I am positive that if asked, anyone on the group would agree that after these three weeks, you really have a much better understanding of China and especially of how to do business in China. Owing to the great people I got to meet and the perfect organization of the trip, this has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I recommend everyone who gets the chance: do it!

 

Since 2010, CBL International is offering an exclusive Easter Session of our Oxford Summer Law School and Oxford Summer Business School.

The academic workload of the 2-week Easter Sessions is equivalent to a minimum of 4 ECTS, or 2 US Credits.

London Day

A visit to London, the capital city of England and the United Kingdom, is part of all CBL International study abroad programmes in the UK.

“We always spend a whole day in the City of London to give our delegates the best experience of London as a European centre for law, economics, finance, and business. Such days includes our special tour of Legal London, presentations of partner companies, and visits to international institutions such as the United Nations International Maritime Organisation. In addition, visits to law firms such as Fountaincourt Chambers or Allen & Overy are always great occasions for all our students to expand their personal networks”, says Alexa von Kuensberg, Manager Academic Partnerships with CBL International. Visits to important British institutions such as the Royal Courts of Justice or the Houses of Parliament are offered, too.

CBL International also offers a wide range of after class activities. Especially the visit to Blenheim Palace – birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill – is a beautiful trip in spring. Additionally, traditional punting on the Isis River – that’s how the Thames is called in Oxford – is always an important part of all programmes.

CBL International opens Oxford office at Oriel College

CBL International has opened a new office in Oxford. “Six years ago, we established our Shanghai office. It is a major step in the development of CBL International as an excellent global educator to open our new office in the city of dreaming spires, Oxford, in 2012. Being sponsored by Oriel College, one of the renowned addresses in Oxford and beyond, is a privilege and great honor”, said Claudia Rudeck, Head of Academic Programmes with CBL International.

The office is located in Oriel College (University of Oxford, UK) and will be the centre for CBL International operations in Europe and the Middle East.

New China programme in March 2013

CBL International has redesigned its China study abroad programmes coming up in spring. Starting next year, the China programmes from 11 until 29 March 2013 will no longer run in Shanghai only, but include a week of studies in the Chinese capital, Beijing.

Besides sightseeing at the Great Wall and in the Forbidden City, the programme includes lectures at universities and visits to companies, lawfirms, and diplomatic briefings. China’s capital is part of CBL International’s China summer courses since 2007. From next year on, all academic programmes offered in China will include Beijing as a study destination.

CBL International co-organises Shanghai Future Forum

In September 2012, CBL International co-organised and sponsored the first Shanghai Future Forum. Key topic of this well attended event at Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich (Germany) was the Chinese city development plan “Shanghai 2020″ and it’s affect on foreign investment opportunities.

“Objective of this plan is to ensure Shanghai becomes an international logistics and financial centre by 2020. Risks and opportunities for foreign investors in Shanghai were at the centre of the debate”, explains Professor Dr. Michael Jiang, partner at CBL International.

Co-organiser of this event have been outstanding industry partners such as Burkardt, Peters & Partner (BPP law), Munich Chamber of Commerce, Qidong Industrial Park, and UDC/Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zones Shanghai.

CBL International campus visits

CBL International has been once again meeting students in more than 100 universities and colleges in Australia and Europe to give them a ‘live opportunity’ to learn more about the various study abroad programmes CBL International is offering in Dubai, China, the UK and other destinations. During the last three months, a series of campus visits took place in several countries including Australia, Austria, Germany, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Switzerland, and the UK.

“During our visits, we had the great chance to get a lot of students involved in our education programmes all over the world”, says Philip Hockerts, Chief Operating Officer. “We also took the opportunity to meet with many professors and university representatives, and still had enough time to catch up with many of our alumni.”

CBL International held its first distinguished signing ceremony in Beijing, China and welcomed the first 10 Chinese elite universities – including Tsinghua University and Beijing University – as partners of CBL International Oxford Summer Institute at Oriel College.

Sir Derek Morris, Provost of Oriel College (University of Oxford, UK) delivered the key note speech emphasising that Oxford Summer Institute was an excellent opportunity for Chinese and international students to study together in Oxford, the city of dreaming spires. In addition to some of the best universities, several Chinese law schools, business schools and economics faculties attended the ceremony. Dominik Wanner, CEO with CBL International, also had the honour of welcoming the president of China University of Political Science and Law, Mr Huang Jin, as well as the president of famous Nankai University, Mr Gong Ke at this great event.

UAE’s Largest Bank Sponsors Emirati Students to Study in China

The biggest bank in Dubai, EmiratesNBD, became a Gold partner of all academic programmes of CBL International in Dubai and the Middle East. At the same time, EmiratesNBD will sponsor students from Higher Colleges of Technology to attend CBL International China Business School, the longest running summer programme for international students in Shanghai and Beijing.

CBL International Sponsors Oriel College Titanic Commemoration Ball 2012 in Oxford

Every three years, Oriel College holds its prestigious Commemoration Ball. This is a formal ball in the 9th week of Trinity Term, the week after the end of the last full term of the academic year, which is known as “Commemoration Week”. This event is always an important date in the calendar of the University of Oxford: The ‘Social Event of the Year’, as the Times magazine called such occasion.

In 2012, CBL International proudly joined the Oriel Commemoration Ball as a platinum sponsor. “We really enjoyed celebrating the event with our friends from Oriel College, with our partners, alumni, and the CBL International Oxford team”, says Claudia Rudeck, Head of Academic Programmes at CBL International. “The Oriel Ball is a lifetime experience. UC Berekely China Study Tour

UC Berkeley Haas Business School offered its students this year a unique study tour through China to learn more about ‘Doing Business in China’. The group met in Hong Kong and then travelled through Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Suzhou to end up in the Chinese capital Beijing. In every city the delegates have been experienced outstanding company visits with corporations such as Credit Suisse, MTR Corp, Deloitte, Baidu, Huawei Technologies, Youku, and Zynga, had great discussions with managers, and gained deep insights into business activities in China by also meeting with manufacturers in the Southern province of Guangdong. CBL International even organized for the delegates to be part of the audience of ‘Crossover’, one of the most popular talk shows on CCTV, China Central Television.

The study tour was led by Dr Dave Robinson, senior lecturer and faculty member of Haas Business School; Dr Robinson had been organizing such study trips for many years in the past and has an extensive experience in ‘Doing Business in China’. “The delegates enjoyed their time in China very much as we have been organizing quite a bit of visits, meetings, discussions, and tours. For the students from Haas Business School the study tour was a good combination of learning lots of new aspects of global business and management and experiencing China as the rising economic power”, explained Lucy Yan, Academic Programme Manager with CBL International.

City of Cambridge

Cambridge is a beautiful historic city located on the river Cam. Highlights of the city’s architecture include medieval streets, bridges, and a historic marketplace, not to mention the numerous Cambridge University colleges from different historical periods.
